Kill the Termites

Posted in General on March 31st, 2008 by Ravi

I was searching for formosan termite control a while ago, to get some termite problems solved in my place. Below is what I got from Wikipedia about termites.

Termites, sometimes incorrectly called “white ants”, are a group of social insects usually classified at the taxonomic rank of order Isoptera. (This has been challenged by recent research, see taxonomy below.) Termites mostly feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of wood, leaf litter, soil, or animal dung, and about 10% of the estimated 4,000 species (about 2,600 taxonomically known) are economically significant as pests that can cause serious structural damage to buildings, crops or plantation forests. Termites are major detrivores, particularly in the subtropical and tropical regions, and their recycling of wood and other plant matter is of considerable ecological importance.

As social insects, termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundred to several million individuals. They are a prime example of decentralised, self-organised systems using swarm intelligence and use this cooperation to exploit food sources and environments that could not be available to any single insect acting alone. A typical colony contains nymphs (semi-mature young), workers, soldiers, and reproductive individuals of both genders, sometimes containing several egg-laying queens.

Adobe Premiere

Posted in General on March 31st, 2008 by Ravi

This should be the best video editing software in known memory. And there is no real equivalent for this softwre in open source. And it is not available for linux. Too bad, it is available only for Windows.

Bill did put in a lot of bugs for windows, but he created something else as well to Windows. It is a licnese. And so, other software people who wanted to produce software commercially followed suit. Companies like Adobe would never get into open source. They need the money if they want to develop, and they dont really want to serve theopen source community.

As long as it is not open source, they wouldnt bother to bring it to linux. It is not a software for everyone. It is for professional video editors, and they would certainly pay the license fee for the software.

What is the difficulty that they find in making a Linux verstion of the software? Well, there are too many distros of linux. Linux is opensource, and they really cant charge much to get their software paid for by a linux user. Graphics is still regretfully low in Linux, while Windows gives good eyecandy.

However, as long as you can pirate windows, you can pirate premiere too. I think it is best for all software developers to generate a fund for their company, and move everything to open source, or atleast make the software free and restricted.

I dont need premiere. I dont do video editing. Im not that creative anyways, and I dont shoot videos. But earlier I was using premiere to convert the video formats of my favourite porn, stuff like AVI to MPG conversion and MPG to DVD and stuff. Though there are a lot of open source equivalent for these video conversions, I still prefer Adobe Premiere for the job. I must say, it rocks.

Sales and Marketing

Posted in General on March 31st, 2008 by Ravi

If you have a good set of contacts, leads and a mailing list, your marketing and sales part would be a lot simpler. Have you ever thought about it that way? When we are talking about mailing lists, we are not talking aboutmailing lists downloaded from some yahoo group or collected illegally. We need good Opt In email ids, and email ids that are sure to respond. We wouldnt be wanting to be sending mails just to any id that we have and end up wasting our time you know.

And we could also use a telemarketing team, and sites like salesprospects.com can provide us with telemarketing list and many other details of prospective clients who would really show some conversion.
