What is a shopping website?

Posted in General on July 31st, 2008 by Ravi

Well, from a layman’s point of view, naturally it is a website that sells things which people could buy and pay for it online, and the goods would be delivered to your address. You get to choose stuff, put them in a shopping cart, checkout, pay, and sit and relax while the courier guys come and deliver it for you.

shopping cart

Well, thats what the people who shop think. But if you wnat to create a shopping site, you need to know a lot more than that. You need to install a shopping cart script on your hosting, which you need to integrate with the designs of your website, fill it up with theproducts that you want to sell, and then launch the site for the public to buy things.

Thankfully a good number of shopping carts are available for sale outthere. If you are an expert programmer, you could go for the free and opensource ones, but if you would like to be doing better off and concentrating on the sales of the products, then I would recommend that you go for the paid ones that come with a license and some support for the software, so that by mistake if something goes wrong, or if you need help in configuring the software, you will get help over phone or atleast over email and you dont have to depend on public forums for previous entries, or an answer for a newly posted entry.

Lambada (Kaoma)

Posted in General on July 31st, 2008 by Ravi

Lambada is some sort of a forbidden dance in Brazil, and Kaoma, a popular french band released a song called Lambada in 1989. It was quite popular then, and when I was in school, I would desperately watch MTV for days and months together to see if they would show this song some thime. There was no youtube at that time, and I didn’t have the resources to get a CD. I was after all a school boy.

And there is youtube today, and just by typing the name of the song, you get to view it on your computer. What a development in just 12 years.

Here is the song

Games On a Computer and Games Online

Posted in General on July 31st, 2008 by Ravi

What could possibly be the difference? Why wouldn’t people just satisfy themselves with the games that are available on their computers? Play pacman or soliraire or something? Well, games on Windows are after all, interesting. Or thats what Windows enthusiasts say to defend Windows when I talk about Linux. Well, there are a lot of mac games that one could play, and there are a good number of kids games available as well.

Well, one good way to play games for people who use all platforms is online. You have loads of websites such as midoritech.com that provides you games from solitaire to global warning, and there are loads of multi player games as well that are available. And after all, why waste diskspace when you can play games that are stored on a remote computer, where you cna show off your scores to the community that is playing in a website?

Typing on a Dust Soaked Keyboard

Posted in General on July 31st, 2008 by Ravi

The office where I sit in right now is about 2 years old. Well air conditioned, and well sealed against dust. Everyone is asked to leave their footwear outside, and naturally everyone is supposed to be neat and clean. No one is allowed to enter the office after a mud wrestling session or something. But still, after about 2 years, even the Microsoft keyboards (the only product of Microsoft that I like) get stuck. When I called up an engineer to check whats wrong with the keyboards, he just removed all the keys to find that the area under the keys is tightly packed with dust.

How did so much dust come from? Though we have not been treating out office as an ER, we do keep it very clean and dust free to make sure that the computers dont get damaged this way, but still, this much dust has managed to get in and get accumilated under the keys over the period of 2 years.

We are not sure if we could clean the dust off all the keyboards in our office without damaging production and bring all of them back to normal effecienty, or will we have to invest money to get a new set of keyboards?l Absolutely no idea.

Slughorn and the Horcrux of Voldemort

Posted in General on July 30th, 2008 by Ravi

I was looking for a plugin that would read RSS feeds and convert them into posts for wordpress, and I already use a plugin called feedwordpress. I am not a spammer, but I do own an adfarm, for which I use such plugins. When I was searching for it, I reached this page, and it reminded me of the scene in HP6 in which Slughorn’s modified memory shouts out aloud that he doesn’t know anything about Horcruxes.

Well, this page has nothing to do with horcruxes or the Harry Potter series, but the tone of what it reads revokes the scent in HP7
