I am foolish at times. I logged into cpanel today and tried to delete my main domain in it. Ravisblog.com, just because I wanted to upload the newer version of wordpress into it since something went wrong in my last automatic update. Being a web host, I should have known that I will not be able to delete my main domain name in which my hosting account is configured on the server, and I just went ahead and clicked on the delete domain button. And the reply I got was, “You cannot Kill yourself. Suicide is not an option.” The admin has to delete the domain, and if he does, all the domain s that you have in your account will be lost. So, I just deleted the folders and files in the account, and uploaded the files again, and the blog is back online now.

What are you looking at? A forum, a blog? Or a business website with dynamic content? You have pre defined software for all of these, and you could do without a designer. For an induvidual, a blog is the best website that he could have. I have got ravisblog.com and ravi.ms(where I dont write at all, I use it pruely for email) and a few other blogs. I write a lot of bullshit, and all those writings go on these blogs. Webaholics.co.in is one of them. Well, there are places where you get free hosted forums, blogs and joomla sites, where you could get your site hosted for free, and just get a domain and point it there. Thats the easy way of doing it. But you have no control of the blog that you have with them, and if they for any reason which they dont normally disclose block your blog, all your work is wasted. So, I always recommend that you host them somewhere, where you have full control over your files, and can do any customizations and modifications that you need. Get a web hosting with cpanel. Dont go for any high end hosting plans like the Continue Reading

Web Hosting is not an easy job. I know how tough it is. I have been doing it for about 5 years for gods sake. Managing your servers remotely, negotiating with Data Centres, and getting your work done and by no means displeasing the client. Phew!!, Im thru with it and have let the professionals take over. Webhostinggeeks.com is a PR7 site that provides unbiased web hosting reviews and customer reviews of major web hosting company. The site reviews hosting companies over a wide range of categories of producst and services that they offer, such as free domin name, free hosting for domain name etc, and you can find a lot of companies indexed on the website, and clicking on each of them will give you the unbiased positive user review. If you dont want your hosting service provider to take you for a ride, you need to know what is what is where is where when you get hosting from someone. For example, you cannot run ASP in linux, and if you dont know that, any hosting service provider that is not as decent as my own indyahozting will definitely take you for a ride, and make you pay Continue Reading

If you ever had Thoughts&Things about making money from adsense or adbrite is that easy, it is not. Welcome to the bitter truth. You will be paid a few cents for every click and a cent for every thousand impressions. You can expect to make a dollar a day if you have about a hundred thousand page views per day, and if a 100 of them click you should make about 10 dollars. So there is no legitimate way of making money from these means, unless you force your visitors to click on the links For example, you could run a blog, and just below the title , you could place an ad unit which would naturally show relevant text ads to the title, and if you make sure that you blend the unit into your template, they will all look like links on your post, and if people click on that, you willd make money, and when they leave, it would show up as bounce rates in your urchin or google analytics account. And if the site to which you redirect your readers to appear more good, they will subscribe to their rss, and you will loose your visitors. Continue Reading

If you have got a newly setup server, you could take a trial of plesk. Plesk installs only on brand new servers, and if you have installed anything other than windows updates or something, it will not get installed properly. So, on such a server, you could install plesk by donwloading it from swsoft.com, and, registering for the single domain license. You will be able to create 1 domain name, and all features such as database, mail box and everything is limited to one. Great if you have a single domain website that needs to run on a server. There are several servers that are available for as low as $20 these days, so if you think you would rather put up your site in one such server, you could consider going for it with a single domain plesk license.

The money, unfortulately, is in the client’s pockets, and to bring it legally into your pockets, you need to do a little bit of work. Provide service in such a way that no one would have provided before. First, you need a cool brand name. wehostlinweb is not a cool name at all. Hostgator is a cool name, and I thought, indyahozting is a cool name, and thats why I registered the domain name. Before that I thought webaholics was a cool name, but couldnt get a .com name for that, so I just let it be and now its a blog. Secondly, you need to promote it. During the initial stages, you need to go with adwords. For that you need to have a decent budget. Without regualr ads, any money that you spend on advertising will completely be wasted, except for a few clients that you may get. Thirdly, build as many one way links as possible to your site. Turn to blogs, host blogs in your server, offer them a few free months, get friendly with them, and ask them to write about you. Or ask them to do a paid review. Target blogs with good readership. Continue Reading

This is a common problem. In cPanel/WHM, you can limit the number of mails that can be sent from a domain in an hour. In windows or plesk, you cant do that. Windows 2003 is not a server operating system you know, it is just more of a secured (or so called) PC. You cant expect any features in it. Though you can set limitations in the number of mails send per domain, spammers get hold of scripts that clients use in their websites to send mails, and spam the hell out of your server. And your server just stops working. Or, if your server is powerful enough, your mails just stop working. Whats the best way to prevent that from happening? Use google’s google apps. The free email service for your jenifaa-sakura domain name. When you create hosting, make your settings in such a way that the mx record that is created for each domain is set to google’s. When your client gets the hosting, ask him to sign up at google.com/a and get his mail box. There he will have no limitations of mails or mail ids or anything. And there is no way that your IP gets Continue Reading

I had named my company long before it was started, as webaholics. And in 2005, when I looked for the domain name, I found that webaholics.com was taken, and with webaholics.in not public yet, I had to settle for webaholics.co.in. And this is that domain. I was running a web hosting site on this domain name. When I started all I had was a reseller account taken from datapacket.net, which eventually got blocked for spamming. One of my clients spammed their servers off it seems, and the one who spammed got his money back from me, and I learnt the lesson and took my first server. With the servers I was able to offer Windows Reseller Accounts with Helm control panel, and slowly the sales boosted, and i started acquiring more and more servers, and learned a lot of thing myself, such as Plesk is the best hosting control panel for windows and Cpanel is the best for linux, and that Red Hat is best for servers while ubuntu is best for PCs. This is because Red Hat’s support is cheaper than ubuntu’s Later I went on to start a website called indyahozting, which Im still running, and this domain Continue Reading
