Are our accents really this bad?

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Are our accents this bad really? Or is Russell just making it sound funnier? Untill quite recently, I noticed huge similarities between Russell Peters and Salman Rushdie. Well, I am a low lying person, and suddenly came to my senses that the common thing between the both of them is that they both ate Indians, talking about India to Non Indian people everywhere. Russell makes fun of us, while Salman makes some sense, tries to project the richness of the countries without making the Europeans feel depressed or anything. Well, both need to do some Fastin and loose some wieght if they want to stop panting whe they talk.

The Camera Fan

I guess Limited Visiblity is the term. India is a great country, but unfortunately it is a dirty country as well. How do you seperate the beauty from the dirty? Well, you need digital cameras to do that. You could do it with the antiquated film cameras too, but since you cant really process them digitally with ease, I guess it is not a good alternative to the digital cameras that we have on the markets today.

BSNL Slashes STD Long Distance Call Rates

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

About 3 years ago, BSNL was the first to introduce the lowest calling rates to anywhere in India at Re. 1. I remember the times when a call to Bombay costed Rs 50 a minute. It was a boon for me actually, but I still wished that the call rates would go down further as my bills were still high. Well, I am on the phone for 2500 to 3000 minutes a month.

BSNL has intorduced a new plan called India Golden 50, which is a prepaid mobile plan, which attracts a monthly fee of around Rs 350, and you can make calls to anywhere in India for 50 paise. That means, if my bills were around Rs 3000 call charges + Rs 300 rental + Rs 407 service tax, my total bill would have been 3707, and with this prepaid connection, on which everyone gets lucky once in a while to get a full talk time on their recharges without any service charges or processing fees, I pay only Rs 1500+350 totallying Rs 1850, and I save nearly Rs 2000 a month. If I dont get lucky with the full talk time recharges, I pay the service tax too of 12.36% which would be another Rs 240.

This is really a rocking plan. Imagine phone bills being cut to half. The happens no where else in the world.

And for the landline as well, BSNL had made the one india plan as standard for all basic phones. You pay only Re 1 for any call made anywhere in india for 60 secones, and local calls at Re. 1 for 180 seconds within a circle of 50 Kms.

A few month’s ago, BSNL had reduced Intra circle call rates to Re 1 to 120 seconds. Now it has reduced calls to any landline in the country to Re 1 for 120 seconds.

And as BSNL charges for the pulse with a predefined pulse rate, my cost per pulse is 80 paise, as I have got an unlimited 512 kbps broadband connection, and there are no rents or slabs for me. So with service tax, I pay only 8933 paise per pulse. This means I can call any landline anywhere in the country for a little less than 90 paise and speak for 2 minutes.

India is shining.

The Slumdong and the Millionarire

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Have I been a spoilt brat that I like only masala movies from Bollywood? Don’t I really recognize a good movie? Well, I did like Aishwarya’s The Mistress of Spices. Infact I would say that it was her best movie. Full of spices and yet no masala. I liked The Namesake, and I did like Fire as well. I admired Shabana Azmi and the role that she played in that movie. So why didn’t I like Slumdog?

Is it because the movie is too realistic? Or is it because I have seen the real India already and don’t see anything new in this movie? Or is it because i knew the story since long.

It is just a love story, and a guy gets lucky and makes a 20 million rupees. Well, if I were lucky, and if I were asked the right questions, I would have surprised Amit ji as well. Or even Shah Rukh.

What is the big deal about this movie? What is the big fuzz? I don’t really see it.

The Best Moonrise that I have ever seen

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

I was flying back from Delhi on the evening of the 10th of Feb, and was supposed to land in Chennai at around 7 pm, but thanks to the congestion at the Delhi airport, we took off only at around 5.30, and were high up in the skies at 7 pm. And at this time, I got to see one of the most beautiful sights that I have ever seen in my life. The sun was setting in the west, and the moon was rising in the east. A beautiful red ball rising out of the horizon.

Most airlines in India do not let you to take photos, but IndiGo did, and I did manage to take a few photos inside the aircraft. Check out my photo stream for more.
