How to take things in your car that are bigger than your car?

Posted in General on August 27th, 2010 by Ravi

Most cars come with huge boots these days. But that is not being enough. For example, lets say you want to transport a bike to a remote area to do some mountain biking, and thi particular area is not where you would find shops that would sell bikes. Thats when your brain starts whirring and starts trying to come up with ideas. Then you think about getting a thule roof rack for your car, and though it would make your car look less prettier than it was before, and would cost a lot more than your bicycle, in te long run, it would end up carrying a lot more stuff in its life. Just make sure you don’t cross any low lying wires and keep the rubber side down.

Golf is expensive business

Posted in General on March 27th, 2010 by Ravi

A game strictly for the super rich. A golf course needs a lot of land for its 18 holes, and a lot of landscaping is needed, and needs a number of mowers to keep the grass in proper condition.

And memberships to clubs that maintain such land are pretty expensive. It really isn’t a game for everyone.

All players will need a caddie who would carry their balls (golf balls :D ) and the clubs. The player himself cannot carry that as its pretty heavy. Battery powered golf carts are available, but thats expensive too. Golf clubs are expensive, and so are golf balls.

The golf ball is a work of art. Each ball has a name and unique characterestics. Remember Goldfinger? He played a Slazanger 1. It is not a ball that is made for the kids to play in their back yards.

I know I would never play golf in my life. Even if I become rich enough to afford the game, I have already passed the age to learn the game and practice it. But out of the fascination of the ball, I did manage to locate a store that sells used golf balls, and am planning to buy a few of them for my show case.

RV Towing Tips That You Need To Know

Posted in General on November 18th, 2009 by Ravi

It probably wasn’t long after the first RV was made that someone was trying to figure out a way to attach another vehicle and tow it along too. It sounds simple enough, but there are several important considerations that come into play. Most modern RVs and motorhomes are pretty big affairs all on their own, but when you add the weight of another vehicle as well, that’s is a lot of bulk to have to both start and stop rolling as you go down the highway. So here are some rv towing tips that you should know to help you tow properly:

* Actually the first thing to understand is that towing is a whole subject to itself and it requires a lot of research and the right equipment to do it right, so don’t expect to learn all that you need to know from just one article like this. A good place to start is to look carefully through the owner’s manual that came with your motorhome and find out what the specific recommendations are for your RV that have been made by the manufacturer themselves. Follow the guidelines laid out by the RV maker very carefully and if they have restrictions for the use of towing, adhere to them.

* Make sure that the vehicle that you wish to tow does not exceed the proper weight for safe towing. You should make sure that the weight of the tow vehicle and any equipment attached to it or that it rests on, combined with the total weight of the motorhome and all of it’s contents does not exceed the GCWR(Gross Combined Vehicle Rating) for your RV. This is absolutely vital for safe operation., so be sure that you do your homework well in this area.

* You have three main choices for the actual towing of the extra vehicle, you can either (1) just tow the vehicle with all four wheels on the ground, (2) tow it with the drive wheels lifted off the ground by a dolly, or (3) by putting it on a trailer that removes the tow vehicle from the ground altogether. What you choose will probably depend on a few factors including what your RV manufacturer recommends and the kind of transmission that the tow vehicle has. On some vehicles you can severely damage the transmission if the drive wheels are left on the ground and the driveshaft is not disconnected, and on others you may need an automatic transmission pump to help lubricate the transmission while towing, so consult the vehicle’s manufacturer as well to get a better feel about the kind of tow apparatus that you will need.

Of course, any rv towing tips that are provided needs to include a warning about backing up a motorhome with a tow vehicle still attached. This can easily cause damage to both the tow vehicle and the RV if you are not very familiar with these kind of procedures. So usually it’s best to just unhook the tow vehicle before attempting backing up of any kind.

The more research that you can do on this subject in preparation for towing the better, and always err on the side of safety in any decision that you make.

Determine Your Risk Tolerance

Posted in General on February 3rd, 2009 by Ravi

Each individual has a risk tolerance that should not be ignored. Any good stock broker or financial planner knows this, and they should make the effort to help you determine what your risk tolerance is. Then, they should work with you to find investments that do not exceed your risk tolerance.

Determining one?s risk tolerance involves several different things. First, you need to know how much money you have to invest, and what your investment and financial goals are.

For instance, if you plan to retire in ten years, and you?ve not saved a single penny towards that end, you need to have a high risk tolerance ? because you will need to do some aggressive ? risky ? investing in order to reach your financial goal.

On the other side of the coin, if you are in your early twenties and you want to start investing for your retirement, your risk tolerance will be low. You can afford to watch your money grow slowly over time.

Realize of course, that your need for a high risk tolerance or your need for a low risk tolerance really has no bearing on how you feel about risk. Again, there is a lot in determining your tolerance.

For instance, if you invested in the stock market and you watched the movement of that stock daily and saw that it was dropping slightly, what would you do?

Would you sell out or would you let your money ride? If you have a low tolerance for risk, you would want to sell out? if you have a high tolerance, you would let your money ride and see what happens. This is not based on what your financial goals are. This tolerance is based on how you feel about your money!

Again, a good financial planner or stock broker should help you determine the level of risk that you are comfortable with, and help you choose your investments accordingly.

Your risk tolerance should be based on what your financial goals are and how you feel about the possibility of losing your money. It?s all tied in together.
