Fascinated about MySql

Posted in General on August 18th, 2008 by Ravi

Nopes, Im not fascinated about the commands and queries that you use for storing and retriving databases from a mysql server, but being a server admin myself, I have been having fun for the past several days installing a mysql server on my local pc at home and am having fun loading it with bullshit, installing multiple blogs and open source software including mediawiki into one single database with different table prefixes and am multi threading them all to make them all access the database at the same time, write a lot, do a lot of indexing and deletions and stuff, and I just have fun watching the graph. Researching? Well, I myself dont know what I am doing and why I am doing it, and would what I do be good for any one at all. Maybe instead of playing games, I am just doing this to amuse myself. I wish what I do becomes useful for me some day.

Well, these are the kinds of things that interest me, and not really programming for some reason. Load the server with queries and see what it does. I dont know how to structure a proper query still.

Torrents of Data

Posted in General on August 5th, 2008 by Ravi

Downloading data with torrents may sound relatively easier, but it is a heavy load on the isp. When you download a file directly from http or ftp, only one single connection is required between your computer and the server that supplies you data. But open source software though they own servers, prefer to distribute software thru torrents so that when people are downloading softwar,e they can share it by uploading a part of it too, and this way, the file serving costs of the software provider will be reduced a lot. But what really happens is that for one single file download, you will find that you are having over 100 connections with your torrent client such as azureus or utorrent or ktorrent. And this really clogs up data everywhere, and soon this too will be eliminated just like they have eleminated spam mail. If spam mail is a botheration to an induvidual, torrents are a botheration to the whole world.

What is Hacking?

Posted in General on July 27th, 2008 by Ravi

Hacking means the same thing everywhere. Largely it means customization of a work that someone else has done to suit your requirements. Being a hacker in the open source community is a good thing. But most people don’t know about open source, and therefore, everyone thinks that hacking is bad. Well, it is not always bad. Open source software are there for customization, and customizing it to suit your needs and distributing it again so that others can use it with the improvements is what is called as Hacking in Open Source. In various Open Source community meets, there will be a good number of sessions that deal with open source hacking. But hacking is a good thing in Open Souce only because open source is open source, and that anyone can do what ever they want, and that no one is responsible if something goes wrong, and people use the software at their own risk. Open source hacking only means modifications of the open codes that are meant for modification, and this is no big deal compared to the hacking done by the bad guys on websites and other software.

Ubuntu Studio – Who Said Linux isn’t for Multimedia

Posted in General on June 24th, 2008 by Ravi

Good things in life come free of charge. You pay for something, and you get only bugs. Take Windows of Microsoft for example. You have two choices. Either buy it, or pirate it. You get support in neither ways, so doesnt make a big difference, and both are equally buggy. All commercial software people have gone the the windows way as linux promotes only free and open source software, and for people who need to use adobe photoshop, and have not really heard about gimp and other software, they stick to windows. They havent looked for other options and thats really why linux isnt very popular among the common people.

Ubuntu is the best linux of them all. You have a lot of packages that come with it, and the best repository that there is. Any software that you can think of, you will find in the repository. And most of the drivers of any hardware install automatically.

Ubuntu Studio is a derivative of the proper Ububtu, and it is highly optimized for Multimedia. Anything that you would need to do with multi media such as sound editing, video editing, you can find appropriate software in Ubuntu studio. Want to retain ubuntu, and have ubuntu studio software installed into it? Why not, go to your synaptic package manager, and search for ubuntu studio, and you will get all the packages induvidually, and as sets that you cna choose and install. Im more of an audio guy, so you will find that I have installed everything that is related to audio in my ubuntu pc.

It is a cool OS derivative, and it clearly proves that if its possible on windows, it is possible on linux as well, and, you will never be bothered by the anti piracy department, and you dont have to pay another dime in license fee. I would say that Essence For Better life…(UNIQUE ICON) is in ubuntu
