Google’s servers DOWN!!

Having been running a web hosting company for a few years in my life has made me aware how much downtime costs. People just get mad when their sites dont show up to their clients. Once, a long downtime on my Windows server made me transfer the ownership to someone else who is more capable of doing it better than me.

Since morning, I tired to use google about 7 times to search for various things, and I found that the big G was down. Holy fucking shit, does this happen to google too? Imagine a dying man searching for life insurance in google and finding it down :D

People like me who depend on google for their lives would only now realize how important google is for them. As for me, I can’t do a thing right without google. Be it configuring a server, or to find the conversion rates, or to check the weather in places.

Earlier I used to feel crippled when I was away from the internet, now I feel crippled without google itself and I am unable to make up my mind to have yahoo or msn substitute it.

If you are running a huge business with thousands of clients, then one way to retain them and make them come back over and over again is by giving them promotional offers once in a while. Just good service is not enough. Well, if you do good business, according to the books, that is all you need to attract clients. But the world is so corrupt and the people are so greedy and they would come to you only if they feel that they get more than what they are paying for. So one good way is to share your profits with them. Give them freebies once in a while, give them gift baskets or give them holiday tickets. Excite them with discount coupons, and run a draw and give them free holidays.

With these people would get excited doing business with you, and naturally your client base will grow.

The Risk of Running a wpmu site

Well, I was curious, and made a few wpmu websites. On top of every page on this blog you will find links to the popular wpmu sites that I have got. It has got a fair number of users, not over 3 digits yet, but just yesterday I realized that most of the blogs that are created in those multi user sites are spam.

One good way is to staff someone and get your blog monitored and check every new blog registration and repeatedly check all blogs for bad content. Well, it is hard. What on world is easy? Nothing. If you think you can’t do it, sent your traffic to mymo.in, and I’ll host their blogs for free.

AC with Cieling Fan

The electricity department headed by Arcot Veerasamy in India is propagating a strange sort of message these days. To save power, let your Fans run with your AC, and that way the air circulation will be better and therefore your power bills will be low. What a foolish message to speread out. Well, a person induvidually might be smart and intelligent, but collectively, people are dumb. Especially Indians.

When you let the Ceiling Fan running along with the AC, the air conditioning compressor have to take the trouble of cooling the heat produced by the Fan, as well, and the fan’s air flow will be vertical while the ACs airflow will be horizontal, and that would disrupt the airflow completely, and the room will not be evenly cooled, and that will make the thermostat switch malfunction, and thus one part of your room will be really cool while another part would be completely hot.

Doing so would only waste even more electricity. The best way to save electricity is to set the AC at 24 degrees and let it run without switching it off, and thus the room temperature will be maintained in 24, and the AC would not have to take pains in managint the fluctuating temeratures. if you really want to save power, make sure that your room is well insulated and that no air leaks out, and make sure that you do not open or close the doors or windows often when the AC is running.
